Why this blog has no comments

I just had my decision to not allow comments reinforced.

Yahoo Finance had an item: Is President Obama anti-business?  Or are the CEOs just looking for a scapegoat?  Click here to join the discussion on Facebook and then scroll down to the discussion.

I didn't see any entry that discussed the issue based on facts, either way.  The entries were sweeping generalizations, innuendo, name calling, and other personal attacks.

Comments might make my blog more popular, but I don't want to spend my time wading through comments, deleting the worst, and responding to others.

Blogger was down

I tried posting the Carly Fiorina update on Sunday night, but when I signed on to Google's Blogger I was given a notice that "Blogger is unavailable".  I tried again this morning and afternoon with the same result.  This afternoon there was a status report:
"We're aware of isolated access issues in certain regions within the US. We're investigating this now and will follow-up as soon as we have more information to share

Thanks for your patience in the meantime."

An apology to my loyal readers

I'm sorry that the 8-13 people who regularly check this blog haven't found much here lately.

The cause is threefold.

The older I get, the longer my to-do list gets. Sometimes it's what-I-please; sometimes it's haftas. I do know my desk is overflowing with unfiled papers.

We've been spending a lots of time on outside activities, including trying to get more time in at the fitness center. And we've been spending three to four days a week at the cabin. After a day of moving stuff to the chipper and stuffing the chipper; I just want to read a book. Of course, the s-l-o-w internet speed doesn't help.

The muse has left me because I've ignored her. The text file in which I draft each month's blogs is filled with snippets of ideas waiting to be developed. I look at a snippet, write a sentence or two, and get stuck!

I make no promises, but I will try harder to keep this blog interesting to you.

Meanwhile, I promise that this sunset picture is not indicative of a sunset of this blog.

I took this Friday afternoon on our way back from the cabin. It is from Hwy 44 south of the cut through the moraine south of the tracks. As an indication of this not being a sunset of this blog, we went back to our cabin on Sunday and came back today.

As they say on Radio Nations Unies, "Merci pour vôtre fidelité."

As they say on Radio Nations Unies, "Merci pour vôtre fidelité." I'm sorry I can't promise, "Au demain, même heure, même fréquence."

I'm missing the boat again on a trend

I got in early on the trend of main frame computers and did quite well in salary and some other perks. Then I switched to microcomputers and blew opportunity after opportunity. In short, I never worked hard enough, smart enough, and long enough at any one idea. I flitted off to another idea when one wasn't an "immediate" success.

Now I seem to be missing another boat on blogging. A Wall Street Journal article published on Yahoo! Finance, "America's Newest Profession: Bloggers for Hire", says that the number of professional bloggers is approaching the number of lawyers. Nearly a half a million bloggers blog for their primary source of income.

The way I'm going, I might get a check from Google for the ads on my web site and this blog in about ten years. That check, if it ever arrives, would pay for two years full membership in Flickr.

Ah, Flickr, another indication of my very amateur status. I have neglected to post a photo for several months and haven't even checked for views or messages for at least two months.

Now I'm scattering myself further by doing more singing, an activity that I will be paid for even less than my blogging and as much as I am for pictures.

But, hey! I'm in all these activities to have fun. I'm retired and the first rule of retirement is to not show up. So, if I don't feel like writing today, I won't. If I don't feel like taking pictures today, I won't. However, I better at least practice singing a bit everyday. That skill disappears faster than photography or writing.

Therein lies the joy of my many activities, I try to do what I please when I please.

And what I please right now is a pint of good beer. Unfortunately, there is no beer in the house. What I don't please is going out to buy some beer. There I go again, putting myself in a no-win situation.

Thank you for reading this far. I hope you had a good chuckle.
