Why bother?

In a galaxy far, far away, I started this blog with the hope of earning a few dollars every so often.

At first, most readers were from the U.S. and Canada.  Now I get dozens of visits from Russia or Italy.  These are probably trolls who are hoping I will click on their URLs which they hope will trap me into some nefarious scheme.

The few dollars never got to the level at which Google would send me a check.  With only a few dollars to go to that level, the meter stopped.  Then Google sent me an email that I hadn’t made certain changes or something or other.  I’ve long forgotten how to edit the site and really don’t want to figure out how to do it again.

If you’ve been a long time reader, I thank you.

Maybe I’ll post something else here now and then; maybe I won’t.  Che séra, séra!

You can’t get local news from an ATM

Rather than use the ATM for cash today I went into the bank to cash a check and to say hello to the manager and any familiar tellers.  I asked about the sudden closing of one of the nearby shops.  I got more news than I expected.  I knew the owners and some of the staff of the shop and hadn’t heard as many details.  It was stuff I wouldn’t have seen in the newspaper and I am not going to repeat here.  I did get some information that I could use in planning my future business.

I doubt if I’ll ever need a loan again.  If I do it will be easier and possibly with good terms than if I had just been a number in the system.  Besides the ATM doesn’t give Tootsie Rolls.

Convenience fee - what a misnomer!

You've probably seen the charge "convenience fee" when you order tickets online or pay some utility bills online. But the "convenience fee" is really for the company's benefit in two ways. First, they don't need so much staff to open envelopes and enter the data. Second, they cover the credit card/debit card costs. And you thought you saved a stamp and time addressing an envelope.

Here's a thought. Create jobs! Pay by check and mail!
