Shameless self-promotion

I’ve spent way too much time documenting a problem with Apple software.  I phrased my description in a manner that it was moved from the support people to the programmers.  The latter asked for a bit more information.

To add to my “bona fides” I suggested they do a search for

“melvyn” “magree” computers

The quotes are important.  Without them Google would also search for melvin and magee.  The “melvyn” is also important because there are many Magrees who are better-known than I am, especially in Australia.

Wow! Over 20,000 hits going way back.  Gosh, if I could have gotten $100 for each of those items…

Quote of the day: Negotiating

I cannot verify this with an original source.  The only find I made in the John F. Whoever wrote it came up with a good observation.  My variant is:

A: "You owe me a hundred dollars."
B: "I owe you nothing."
A: "OK, let's compromise.  You owe me fifty dollars."

Coleen Rowley, Iraq War, and good quotes

I sent a note to Coleen Rowley about her op-ed column "Ten Years After Iraq" in today's Star Tribune.  I included a couple of the relevant quotes from Washington's "Farewell Address.  I also went to one of her web pages that included several relevant quotes.  Note that some of them are from well-known Republicans or conservatives like Theodore Roosevelt and Margaret Chase Smith.

This quote was included in the latest newsletter of Duluth Minnesota Sister Cities.

I tried to find where Robert Fulghum wrote this, but the first dozen search items gave no attribution other than the author's name.  Robert Fulghum's most famous work is "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten".
